It goes without saying that the cybersecurity industry never stops moving. So where do you find out about the latest trends, updates and developments? 

Sources like industry websites and magazines and social media can give you a good overview of where your industry is at, but for networking opportunities, debates, top industry speakers, the ability to chat to exhibitors and more, industry events are the place to be. 

So, what’s going on in the UK and Europe in 2020? There are plenty of events to choose from, but here are some of the cybersecurity events that are on our radar for this year. 

CPX 360 2020

Date: February 4th to 6th

Where: Messe Wien Exhibition Congress Centre, Vienna, Austria

CPX 360 2020 promises globally renowned cybersecurity experts, and features talks, masterclasses, interactive technical breakout sessions and more. Themes for this year include topics such as security automation, securing your cloud, gamification and zero trust best practices.

The European Information Security Summit

Date: February 12th and 13th

Describing itself as “the largest and most comprehensive cybersecurity summit in Europe”, The European Information Security Summit promises over 100 speakers and over 500 senior cyber professionals. Talks and discussions cover four different streams, from CISOs and Strategic to the Threat Landscape.

Cyber Pathways

Date: February 27th

Where: QEII Centre, London, UK

Not a conference or an exhibition, but a key event in the UK’s cybersecurity calendar. Cyber Pathways exists to give potential candidates the information and connections they need to work in the cyber security industry. School leavers, graduates and those looking to further their cybersecurity training can all benefit from this event, which aims to address the skills gap in the cybersecurity sector. 

CyNam 20.1

Date: March 5th

Where: Cheltenham Racecourse, Cheltenham, UK

A regular networking event for the cybersecurity and cyber technology communities, CyNam is heading to Cheltenham Racecourse for the first time this year. This year, the topic is “The human element of cyber technology”: what it means for threats, weaknesses and risks, as well as how the human element can be used to make positive changes to the cybersecurity sector.

 

Cloud & Cyber Security Expo 2020

Date: March 11th and 12th

Where: ExCeL, London, UK

In 2019, CCSE hosted 21,097 IT and security professionals, more than 700 speakers and over 700 suppliers – and they’re expecting the event to be even bigger this year. “It’s the only place that gives you all you need to know to stay safe in a hostile digital space”, they say: and with case studies, talks and exhibitors galore, there’s plenty to see and do while you’re there. 

Cyber London Conference V

Date: April 7th

Where: Holiday Inn London – Bloomsbury, London, UK

A new addition to the European cybersecurity calendar, Cyber London Conference V brings together cyber leaders from both the public and private sectors, as well as the government, to discuss the latest cyber security challenges and solutions. Topics for talks and panel discussions include managing privacy in a connected society, post-Brexit implications for cyber security, and recruitment, retention and the skills gap.

CRESTCon

Date: May 14th

Where: Royal College of Physicians, London, UK

In 2019, CRESTCon welcomed over 450 delegates from the cybersecurity sector, who were there to enjoy various conference streams, two exhibition rooms and a student demo zone where students could showcase their latest work. This year is the tenth year for the technical cybersecurity industry conference, which focuses on incident response, penetration testing and threat intelligence.

World Conference on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking

Date: May 21st to 22nd

Where: Park Inn by Radisson, Heathrow, London, UK

The theme for this year’s World Conference on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking is “Protect personal information : The identity saved could be your own”. Keynote and speaker sessions will cover current issues and research in no fewer than 22 different tracks, ranging from security as a service and cryptography to mobile and IoT security and professional development. 

Infosecurity Europe

Date: June 2nd to 4th

Where: Olympia, London, UK

Tech, business and cyber communities come together at Infosecurity Europe to discuss and learn how best to protect both businesses and individuals alike. This year marks the event’s 25th anniversary, and with a 400-strong interactive exhibition floor and plenty of global speakers to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

 

Security BSides London

Date: June 3rd

Where: ILEC Conference Centre, London, UK

This year is the 10th anniversary of Security BSides London: a conference expected to bring together over 1,000 participants to discuss key issues affecting the information security sector. This year, talk topics include “Detecting Evil with Network Traffic Analysis”, “Spear Fishing: From LinkedIn to LoggedIn”, and “AWS vs Azure Security”. 

European Conference on Cyber Warfare and Security

Date: June 25th to 26th

Where: University of Chester, Chester, UK

Now in its 19th year, this European conference comes to the UK in 2020 and is expecting participants from more than 30 countries. Many of the papers presented at ECCWS make it into the Journal of Information Warfare, and the event attracts a diverse range of participants, from military personnel to academic scholars and practitioners. 

SteelCon

Date: July 7th to 12th

Where: Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK

SteelCon is a family-friendly hacker conference – which even has a specific kids’ track on the agenda. It describes itself as aimed at “anyone who is interested in how things work, how things can be broken and how they can be fixed”. Its varied range of speakers includes everyone from university professors and journalists to penetration testers and security consultants – and there’s generally a Friday night pub get-together for informal networking, too. 

Cybersecurity & Fraud Summit: London

Date: October 20th

Where: London, UK

The Cybersecurity & Fraud Summit takes place across four continents in 2020, with London hosting the European event. It spans multiple industry sectors, including retail, government, energy, finance and healthcare, and previous years have seen some heavyweight speakers involved. Past speakers include representatives from Barclays, Global Cyber Alliance, Kaspersky Lab and the Metropolitan Police, as well as a number of higher education establishments and cybersecurity media.
